Oshya's species does not have a particular name for themselves. They are called beastkin, daemons, otherwordly, but the most common is "therion". Therion means "wild beast", and the reason for this name is obvious to those who've seen them. Therions are humanoids who retain most human aspects, but take on the physical features and sometimes mental traits of a particular animal.

The changing is not a choice, but an inevitable turn of events that alters a Therion upon reaching sexual maturity. The development of a creature's physical and mental traits is a very spiritual occurance for Therions. It represents the transformation from childhood to adulthood, and is celebrated as "coming of age". It is firmly believed to be a sacred bond and that after death, they will be reborn as that animal.

To other less spiritual individuals, the alterations are merely a tool for survival. The scientifical reasoning behind why the alterations don't occur until puberty is due to increased survivability. As children, Therions appear entirely humanoid and that prevents them, for the most part, from being harmed, neglected, and/or segregated by other species until they are old enough to fend for themselves.

The habitat in which they are born has a direct effect on what animal they "bond" with. I.E.: A child born in a jungle will develop a native animal's features as that would help him/her survive in that environment. Other than that, there is very little limit on what a Therion might "bond" with whether it be aquatic, amphibian, avian, or mammalian.

Typical features to change are the eyes, ears, skin, hands, hair, and feet. The addition of an animal's feature not yet present is also common such as fur, feathers, tail, claws, wings, ect. In rare circumstances, Therions have even been known to bond with magical creatures but that is generally secluded to magically innate humanoids.

Therions can only reproduce with other humanoids. I.E.: Humans, Elves, Drows, other Therions, Hybrids, ect. Reproduction with another species that has very dominant genes leaves a higher chance of resulting in still birth or miscarriage. As a highly dominant gene, any person born from a Therion will, without a doubt, go through the aforementioned process.
